OSCE denies proposing joint UN peacekeeping mission

OSCE denies proposing joint UN peacekeeping mission

22 January 2019

The OSCE didn’t propose creating a joint peacekeeping
mission with the UN in Donbas at the peace talks in Minsk, said on Jan. 19
Martin Sajdik, the special representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in
Ukraine and the Trilateral Contact Group. His statement, reported by the
Deutsche Welle news agency, rejects the claim by Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin
on Jan. 16 that the OSCE made such a proposal
in Minsk.

Zenon Zawada: Klimkin may
have made his claim so as to float the idea of an OSCE-UN peacekeeping mission
and enable it to gain traction and support in the public. As we’ve stated, we
don’t believe it’s realistic. But the Ukrainian side is trying to demonstrate
that it’s doing all it can to find a peaceful solution in Donbas.
