Parliament Leaning Towards Yanukovich?

Parliament Leaning Towards Yanukovich?

20 June 2008

Parliament called yet another break until 4pm today, after Yulia Tymoshenko claimed that Our Ukraine had no plans to form an “Orange” coalition and Viktor Yanukovich claimed his Regions party would be able to elect a speaker if no coalition was formed by tomorrow. Some city councils in Orange regions issued appeals to President Yushchenko to not allow an Our Ukraine-Regions coalition. Concorde Capital: It’s likely that Yanukovich and Tymoshenko are both exaggerating, but there does appear to be a serious split within Our Ukraine that could make it hard for the party to commit to any coalition. Unless Yushchenko comes out more decisively in favor of one coalition option or the other, the different factions in his party could act on their own, and parliament could get chaotic.
