Poroshenko to meet with Trump on Thursday

Poroshenko to meet with Trump on Thursday

18 September 2017

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is scheduled to
conduct his second meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sept. 21, as
confirmed by both the Ukrainian Presidential Administration and the White House.
The meeting will occur during Poroshenko’s participation in the UN General
Assembly, said Svyatoslav Tsegolko, Poroshenko’s press secretary.

The Ukrainian delegation will focus its work during
this General Assembly session on introducing a possible UN peacekeeping mission
to help broker a ceasefire in Donbas, as mentioned by Poroshenko.

Zenon Zawada: Besides the
UN peacekeeping mission, the two presidents are likely to discuss possible
shipments of U.S. armaments. We see both of these issues as largely theoretical
exercises in diplomacy, with little practical potential. We see far more
practica; potential with their likely discussions on energy. Trump is likely to
promote more U.S. energy supplies to Ukraine, such as liquefied natural gas,
after he brokered a deal with Poroshenko on U.S. anthracite coal.
