Rada Extends Energy Sector Debt Restructuring.

Parliament on Friday approved an extension of the deadline for energy companies to restructure their debts under the law “On Measures Directed to Ensure the Stable Work of Fuel and Energy Sector Enterprises,” until January 1 2007. The law originally set a deadline of August 10. Nick Piazza: The clearing of energy companies’ large debts is a crucial step towards further energy sector privatization. Thus far, lack of political will has hurt the effectiveness of this law, more time could help.
