Ukraine’s parliament approved a resolution on Sept. 30
imposing a self-quarantine in which it will hold only one session in October
after 10 MPs were reported that day by Speaker Razumkov to be infected with the
COVID-19 disease. Among them are former president and European Solidarity
faction head Petro Poroshenko, Voice faction head Kira Rudyk and People’s
Servant MP Jean Beleniuk. European Solidarity MP Yana Zinkevych reported to
have been infected for the second time. Sessions planned for Oct. 1-2, and Oct.
5-9, were canceled as a result, with a single session planned for Oct. 20. All
other days are earmarked for either work in committees or work with voters, the
pravda.com.ua news site reported.
New infections of the COVID-19 disease caused by the
coronavirus set the latest daily record of 4,069 cases on Sept. 30, the Health
Ministry reported this morning. That’s compared to 4,027 cases on Sept. 29 and
3,627 on Sept. 28. An estimated 64 people died on Sept. 30, compared to 64 on
Sept. 29 and 69 on Sept. 28.
Zenon Zawada: The rising
second wave of the coronavirus in Ukraine has nothing positive to offer,
needless to say. It will only harm any attempts at economic recovery. And
that’s regardless of the ability of foreigners to visit Ukraine, which was
renewed this week.
