Rada reinstates punishment for failure to file e-declarations

30 June 2021

Ukraine’s parliament
approved on June 29 an amended version of a bill #4651, offered by President
Zelensky, to reinstate punishment for filing fraudulent electronic declarations
or failure to file the declaration by state officials. Recall, Zelensky vetoed the previous
version
of
the bill, approved in early June. In that version, MPs had included two last-minute
changes
that
significantly eased the consequences for officials for not declaring, as well
as allowed them to not declare the “unknown” assets of their family members.
The amendments voted on June 29 add a one-year prison sentence for
non-declaration and does not allow to not declare the “unknown” assets of
officials’ family members.

Alexander Paraschiy: The amended bill seems to be fully in line with Ukraine’s commitments
to its western partners, so it is a right step towards the resumption of
Ukraine’s deeper cooperation with IFI, including the IMF.
