Retail trade in Ukraine advances 10% yoy in 1H19

Retail trade in Ukraine advances 10% yoy in 1H19

25 July 2019

Retail trade advanced 10.3% yoy in real terms in 1H19,
accelerating from 9.1% yoy in 5M19, Ukraine’s State Statistics Service reported
on July 22. In June, retail surged 13.6% yoy and 4.1% m/m in real terms.

Regionally, the highest retail growth in 1H19 occurred
in the Vinnytsia (18.3% yoy), Cherkasy (16.3% yoy) and Odesa (16.1% yoy)
regions. It was slowest in the Chernihiv (0.9% yoy), Chernivtsi (1.0% yoy) and
Kherson (2.5% yoy) regions.

Evgeniya Akhtyrko: The retail boom is being fueled by fast growth in personal income
(mostly wages). Simultaneously, robust growth in services is helping to
maintain overall economic growth at a decent level given the poor performance of industry in 1H19. We expect real retail to increase 8-9% yoy in
2019 (vs. 5.8% yoy in 2018).
