Russia declines to make bilateral loan to Ukraine

Russian Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Kudrin said yesterday that Russia would not provide a bilateral loan to Ukraine or Belarus, Interfax reported. Kudrin said that Russia, as a member of the International Monetary Fund, supported the loan program of that organization with Ukraine and was monitoring Ukraine’s implementation of the IMF loan program. Ukraine had asked Russia for a loan of up to USD 5 bln as early as February 2009.
