SANCO finished inspecting Ukrainian poultry producers last week

31 May 2010

The European Commission’s SANCO (Health & Consumer Affairs) representatives finished inspecting Ukrainian poultry producers last Thursday, deputy chairman of the Ukrainian Veterinary committee, Mr. Gorzheyev reported. The official results of the inspection should become publicly available in 25 days, revealing the EC’s decision on the possibility of Ukraine’s poultry exports to the EU.

Ruslan Patlavskyy: Given the positive preliminary feedback from SANCO inspectors on the quality of Ukrainian poultry, we see a high probability for domestic producers to get a green light for poultry exports to the EU by the yearend. This should benefit Myronivsky Hliboproduct, Ukraine’s largest chicken meat producer, which plans to sell 5-10% of its annual chicken meat output to this market starting from 2011. That said, we see major challenge to the approval of poultry exports in the implementation of the State program on monitoring residues of veterinary medications and polluting substances in domestic meat products, as required by the EU.
