Telenor & Alfa Battle Over Kyivstar In New York

ANew York court blocked a suit by Alfa and its subsidiaries against Telenor in Ukraine so that they would not override lawsuits in New York arbitration court. According to Telenor’s chief press spokesman Dag Melgaard, failure to carry out the court’s decision would make Alfa’s US representatives criminally liable for the company’s actions. Alexander Paraschiy: According to the agreement between Telenor and Alfa, all the disputes between Kyivstar shareholders can only be decided in New York. However, a local Kyiv court has barred Alfa representatives from participating in New York arbitration hearings. Thus, Alfa is unlikely heed the New York court’s decision.
