The Prosecutor General's Office Opens Case Against Poroshenko.

11 October 2008

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) announced yesterday that it had opened a case against former National Security and Defence Council Secretary Petro Poroshenko, for misusing his political office and extortion. The PGO alleges that Proshenko threatened to illegally block the construction of a residential building in the center of Kyiv, and demanded bribes from the building’s developers. Poroshenko has denied any wrong doing.  Concorde Capital: Oh, how fast they fall. Since his messy ouster from the “Orange government” it seems Poroshenko can do nothing right. Outside the political arena Poroshenko is considered to be a “want-to-be” oligarch among the oligarchs and his aggressive business practices put him at odds with a lot of the business establishment.  In addition the ex-Security chief has a powerful enemy in Yulia Tymoshenko, and this latest turn of events suggests Yushchenko has decided to wash his hands of him as well. Last week the President said that if the corruption allegations against former government members are proven false they would be back, however, if proven true, they would be gone.  Yesterday, Yushchenko’s party, “Our Ukraine,” invited the Yulia Tymoshenko Block to form a coalition in the up-coming parliamentary elections.
