Turkmenistan Not To Raise Price for Gas Until 2009

23 November 2008

The Ukrainian delegation consisting of Yuriy Boyko and Viktor Yanukovich did not reach an agreement on direct supplies of Turkmen gas, which was one of the primary goals at the meeting with the Turkmen President. However, the delegation agreed with Turkmenistan to retain the current price in the next two years (until 2009) and then raise it gradually starting from 2010, according to undisclosed sources cited by Kommersant. This is not surprising as the price of gas from Turkmenistan had been fixed until 2009 according to the contract between Gazprom and Turkmennaftogaz.
