Ukraine figured in the Thursday, May 25, meeting between U.S. president Donald Trump and top EU officials. Remarks of Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, to reporters about not finding “common ground” regarding relations with Russia have made headlines. However, EU observers also report that Tusk stated that regarding Ukraine and the Minsk Agreement, “It seems that we are on the same line.”
James Hydzik: Tusk carefully and specifically separated Ukraine from the general discord regarding Russia and trade, so we see this as an accurate view of the positions taken during the meeting. However, it also points to the continuation of the stalemate regarding occupied Donbas and Crimea. We expect no great changes on these issues despite French President Macron’s impending meeting with RF president Putin.
