U.S. To Grant Ukraine Market Economy Status In March?

17 February 2008

President Viktor Yushchenko said at a press conference yesterday that he expects the USA to grant Ukraine market economy status in the next few weeks. In addition news reports out of Washington stated that the U.S. has sent some top members from the Department of Commerce to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian officials and prepare the documents. Concorde Capital: Ukraine was granted market economy status by the EU in December, receiving this status from the United States would be a major feather in the President’s cap and remove one of the largest obstacles in Ukraine’s quest to join the WTO. Earlier the US said it was willing to allow Ukraine into the WTO but only after it had received market economy status.
