In a report released yesterday, global commercial real estate advisor CB Richard Ellis said Ukraine ranked #12 in new retailer arrivals in 2008, ahead of China, Poland and Czech Republic. In terms of new international retailer openings globally, all but one of the top 15 countries were classified as emerging markets. Daily Kommersant quoted CBRE Senior Consultant Marina Krestinina as saying that during the economic crisis retailer’s plans will undergo a correction, but that expansion remains a priority for retailers. Krestinina added that, for some retailers, the crisis has created favorable opportunities for them to enter new markets. CB Richard Ellis’ report “Retailers Continue to Globalize Despite Downturn” outlines how 280 global retailers expanded their global footprint across 67 countries in the last 12 months.
