Ukraine completes early grain harvest, yields rise 18% y-o-y

23 August 2011

Ukraine concluded its early grain harvest yesterday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Policy said, with yields increasing 24% y-o-y to 3.06 mt per ha. The harvest was 34.2 mln mt of early grains as of yesterday, out of which 23.2 mln mt was wheat and 9.5 mln mt was barley. Yegor Samusenko: Ukraine’s solid harvest results this year comes at the same time as the US Midwest was hit with extremely hot and dry weather, which limits the global supply of the corn and the US acreage for winter wheat next year. This should keep grain and corn prices high even given current stock market volatility and hard commodities turmoil.
