Ukraine considers selling six Oblenergos

5 February 2009

According to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, 25%-27% stakes in six Oblenergos could be privatized this year. The nearest period for the tenders is March-April 2009. Alexander Paraschiy: Actual privatization of these companies looks problematic this year. First of all, the tenders are sure to be banned by the President, as he did twice in 2008. Second, we believe the main candidates to buy the companies (Kolomoiskiy, Grigoryshyn and VS Energy) are not ready to spend money now to raise their stakes in the Oblenergos.
