Ukraine COVID lockdowns could return in November

Ukraine COVID lockdowns could return in November

27 August 2021

Ukraine’s COVID situation could worsen to the point
that a lockdown will be required late in 2021, Chief Sanitary Officer Ihor
Kuzin announced. He stated in an interview with the BBC’s Ukrainian service on
Aug. 26 that in the scenario currently unfolding in the country, a lockdown can
be expected in November. However, given increased vaccination and social
distancing, the onset of the lockdown could be delayed or put off altogether.

Kuzin’s statements come as Ukraine records more than
2000 new cases of COVID for the first time since June 4. Case numbers have more
than doubled since July 30.

James Hydzik: The impact of vaccination on lockdown permissions in Ukraine is
currently unknown. Where fully vaccinated people should be able to go under
such conditions, if at all, is still an open question for public health
officials around the world.
