Ukraine-EU Association Agreement is frozen, Merkel says

Ukraine-EU Association Agreement is frozen, Merkel says

18 April 2013

The imprisonment of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko isn’t the only hurdle for the Ukrainian government in signing the Association Agreement with the EU, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Berlin on April 17. The Ukrainian government faces a series of other problems that include reforming the justice system, ensuring human rights and civil liberties. It’s for these reasons that signing the agreement – reached long ago – is frozen at the moment, she said.
