Ukraine eyes COVID vaccination workplace requirements

3 August 2021

Ukraine might need to require vaccinations for workers
in certain positions, Mykhailo Radutsky, head of the Verkhovna Rada health
committee, announced on Aug. 2. He stated that as the pandemic situation in
Ukraine deteriorates, only schools in which 80% of the teachers are vaccinated
would stay open.

Companies could be required to place vaccinated
workers in public-facing positions. “A sick minibus driver infects no fewer
people than a teacher,” Radutsky posted on Facebook.

James Hydzik: Given that Chief Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin told pravda.com.ua on July
28 that he expects the Delta variant of coronavirus to become the dominant
variant in Ukraine in September amid a new wave in autumn the new requirement will not come as a shock. With the increased
availability of the Pfizer and/or Moderna vaccines and the public’s preference
for them, getting workers vaccinated should be generally easier than before.
