Ukraine rose seven spots to #82 of 142 countries in the annual global competitiveness ranking published by the World Economic Forum, according to results released yesterday. Ukraine had fallen 16 places over the last two years. WEF said that Ukraine continued to demonstrate a number of strengths: well-educated population, flexible and efficient labor markets and a large market size; and that it continued to struggle with a weak institutional framework and highly inefficient markets for goods and services. The Global Competitive Index comprises 12 categories: institutions, infrastructure, macroeconomic environment, health and primary education, higher education and training, goods market efficiency, labour market efficiency, financial market development, technological readiness, market size, business sophistication and innovation.
