Ukraine president submits nominees for key posts

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko submitted a request to parliament on June 18 to approve his nomination of Pavlo Klimkin as the new foreign affairs minister. Klimkin is currently Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany. He also submitted a request to parliament to approve Vice Prime Minister Vitaliy Yarema, a career police officer, as Ukraine’s new prosecutor general. The president issued a June 18 decree appointing the current prosecutor general, Oleh Makhnitskyi, as an advisor. As head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Poroshenko submitted the nomination Valeria Hontareva. The same day, National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Head Stepan Kubiv submitted his resignation.
