Ukraine real GDP accelerates to to 4.6% yoy growth in 2Q19

Ukraine real GDP accelerates to to 4.6% yoy growth in 2Q19

15 August 2019

Ukraine’s 2Q19 real GDP grew 4.6% yoy, or 1.6% qoq
seasonally adjusted, speeding up from 2.5% yoy (0.3% qoq) growth in 1Q19,
according to preliminary estimates by the State Statistics Service released on
Aug. 14.

Evgeniya Akhtyrko: This
preliminary estimate of GDP growth in 2Q19 came as a big surprise. This is the
highest quarterly GDP yoy increase since 4Q16. Apparently, strong growth in the
agriculture and service sectors (especially construction) compensated weak
industrial growth.

This 2Q19 result makes our 2019 GDP growth forecast of
2.4% yoy look too low, even though we expect slower economic growth in 2H19.
But we will await more detailed GDP statistics to be published next month
before making adjustments.
