Ukraine seeks USD 4 bln loan from European banks for gas

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said Ukraine is seeking a USD 4 bln loan from European banks to finance natural gas imports from Russia, the Associated Press reported yesterday. The loan would facilitate the transit of natural gas via Ukraine to European consumers. Tymoshenko said the Ukrainian government was in talks with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and planned to approach other international financial institutions regarding the loan.
