Ukraine treasury residuals drop 4.9% in September

Ukraine treasury residuals drop 4.9% in September

6 October 2017

Ukraine’s September treasury residuals dropped 4.9% to
UAH 60.0 bln as of Oct. 1 from UAH 63.2 bln in the prior month, the State Treasury
reported on Oct. 2. The amount of UAH 63.2 bln at the start of September was
the highest level ever for Ukraine’s treasury residuals.

Alexander Paraschiy: The trend
in Ukraine’s treasury residuals tell us that budget revenues kept on soaring in
September. The authorities probably have sped up with public disbursement in
what translated into residuals dropping. Still residuals remain very high at
close to 2.2% of GDP.

This level of residuals contains substantial
depreciation risks since the funds will be spent in the next four months on top
of regular budget spending. The authorities recognize this risk but it’s not
clear how the Finance Ministry plans to address the issue.
