Ukraine's industrial production drops 3.1% in 2008

According to an NBU official, industrial production in Ukraine fell 3.1% yoy in 2008. Industrial output grew 10.2% yoy in 2007. For the month of December, the decline was 26.6% mom – the largest drop in Europe. In 2008, output in metallurgy fell 10.6% yoy, in chemicals 6.2% yoy, in mining 2.4% yoy, in food processing 0.9% yoy. The only major industry to show growth in 2008 was machinery (+8.6% yoy).
