Ukrainian COVID-19 hospitalizations double in seven weeks, new record deaths

8 September 2020

Almost 8,000 Ukrainians are hospitalized with
COVID-19, compared to 3,500 in mid-July, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov
announced on Sept. 8. Moreover, 57 Ukrainians died of COVID-19 related issues
on Sept. 7, which is a new high number. The situation in Kyiv is not improving,
stated Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko in an online press conference on Sept. 7,
pravda.com.ua reports. There are currently 15,276 cases of COVID-19 in Kyiv,
and 460 of them are being treated for pneumonia, including 91 year-old
archbishop Filaret.

James Hydzik: Minister Stepanov, and essentially every other major Ukrainian figure,
has warned of the upcoming rise in COVID-19 related cases. Still, the reminder
of the doubling in hospitalizations in seven weeks is sobering.
