According to Ukrainian Radio Systems (URS), the fourth largest mobile operator of Ukraine, the company is ready to sign an agreement with Ukrtelecom (UTEL: HOLD) to allow UTEL to use URS’ mobile network for G3 mobile service provision. Alexander Paraschiy: UTEL has been looking for an opportunity to lease already constructed GSM networks to avoid the costs of building its own G3 mobile network. It looks like only URS (a 100% subsidiary of Russian VimpelCom) agreed to co-operate with UTEL. Though, at the moment it is not clear how one of main shareholders of VimpelCom, Telenor, will react to this news. Telenor was unhappy that VimpelCom acquired URS to create competition with another Telenor asset Kyivstar. Now URS will help to develop the mobile business of another potential competitor for Kyivstar.
