U.S. special representative Kurt Volker spoke with
Voice of America ahead of the Normandy Four meeting scheduled for July 26 in
Berlin. While Volker discussed issues such as peacekeeping troops, he
emphasized the continuity regarding American support for Ukraine, and that this
can be expected to remain as the vision of the United States government.
Specifically, he stated that, “that on all of the issues that Ukrainians would
care about, nothing was given away. No handing over of gifts to Russia at
Ukraine’s expense.”
James Hydzik: With Volker’s statement, any short-to-mid-term concerns in Ukraine
regarding Crimea or Donbas can be laid to rest. We see no reason, given the
recent support by the Department of Defense, and statements by officials
regarding the lack of trust in Russia and Putin, to think otherwise.
