President Yushchenko on Saturday threw himself into the struggle for control of Our Ukraine’s party leadership, appealing to delegates at a party congress to support his course of cooperation with the Regions party and the governing coalition. Yushchenko made thinly veiled criticisms of his chief rival in the struggle, Petro Poroshenko, and then called for the congress to be delayed three weeks to give party members time to think it over. Tom Warner: Yushchenko’s surprise move has re-opened the possibility that Our Ukraine will split. We still think the end result will be continued participation by Yushchenko allies in the Cabinet, with or without Our Ukraine’s support.
