Telenor officials met yesterday with President Yuschenko and members of Ukraine’s telecommunications ministry. At the meeting Telenor unveiled its Ukrainian investment plans (the company controls major mobile operator Kyivstar). Concorde Capital: Telenor’s meetings with Ukrainian officials have become a tradition: In February 2005 the company’s CEO met with parliament leader Volodymyr Lytvtn. We suspect both these meetings have important meaning for Telenor: a year ago Telenor wanted to have a guarantee that Kyivstar, which used to be associated with ex-president Kuchma, would not get any heat from the new government. At the moment, Telenor’s main problem is its conflict with Russia’s Alfa, so the company might be sounding out the government for its position on the subject.
