The cities of Kyiv and Lviv, among Ukraine’s leading
tourist destinations, decided on July 6 to relax quarantine restrictions.
Stricken with the highest infection rates in the last week, Lviv has underwent
a decline in the last two days, prompting its regional administration to allow
the reopening of hotels, restaurants, fitness clubs and sports clubs. Religious
events are allowed for more than one participant per 5 sq. m. if they’re held
outdoors. Meanwhile, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced the same day the
city’s restaurants and movie theaters have been allowed to operate later than
10:00 p.m. Entertainment venues and night clubs remained closed after 10:00
p.m.
Cases of the COVID-19 disease caused by the
coronavirus reached 564 on July 6, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov reported at
his daily briefing this morning. That’s compared to 543 on July 5, 823 on July
4 and 914 on July 3. An estimated 21 people died on July 6, while 490
recovered.
Zenon Zawada: The infection rate is back to stabilizing, which is very positive for
the Zelensky administration. It’s possible the E.U. will allow Ukrainians entry
in mid-July, which will be even more positive. Apparently, the president was
informed at his daily virus briefing yesterday that restaurants and theatres
would remain closed after 22:00, despite a decision by the mayorship to the
contrary. This indicates ongoing problems with communication among top state
officials.
