Kyiv court forbids foreign travel to Poroshenko Bloc MP

Kyiv court forbids foreign travel to Poroshenko Bloc MP

2 November 2016

A Kyiv
appellate court ruled on Oct. 19 to prohibit the foreign travel of Poroshenko
Bloc MP Ivan Vinnyk, citing UAH 371 mln in debt (USD 14.3 mln) owed to
Privatbank and Alfa Bank. The restriction is active until the debt is satisfied, the
pravda.com.ua news site reported on Nov. 1.

Zenon Zawada: What’s
interesting about this case is that an MP of the president’s political party
was dealt a serious court ruling against him. This indicates that Ukraine’s
courts have some degree of independence and can’t be influenced. But of course,
having two large banks as an opponent isn’t going to be easy for anyone.
