Latest IMF-demanded bill can be approved this session, speaker says

3 July 2018

Ukraine’s parliament has the means to approve an
amendment to the law creating the independent anti-corruption court that is
being demanded by the IMF and U.S., Speaker Andriy Parubiy told reporters on
July 2. Instead of approving a new bill in two readings, the amendment can be
attached as a rider to an existing draft law – already passed in the first
reading – that is also related to the newly created court.  “That can give
a chance to be approved at this session” that concludes on July 20, Parubiy
said, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine. The amendment enables the newly created
High Anti-Corruption Court to review appeals on existing legal cases filed in
Ukraine’s regular courts.

Zenon Zawada: We don’t
expect any trouble getting this legislation approved in time for the IMF review
of its next loan tranche for Ukraine.
