MHP opens processing plant in Slovakia

Ukraine’s leading poultry producer MHP (MHPC LI, MHPSA) announced on March 30 the opening of a poultry processing plant in Slovakia. The company expects the capital expenditures for the project will reach USD 3 mln.
Igor Zholonkivskyi: MHP did not provide any details on envisioned plant capacity. This will be the second processing plant that MHP has opened in the EU (the first one launched in the Netherlands in 2016) as a way to circumvent the existing restrictive poultry import quota that the EU granted to Ukraine in the free trade agreement launched in 2016. In 2016, MHP’s poultry export sales increased 52% yoy to 190 kt, with only 35 kt having been exported to EU countries. This plant will increase that market share.
