Nearly 95% Of Votes Counted Socialists Give President's Party An Ultimatum?

29 March 2008

With nearly 95% of the vote counted at 11:30 this morning the Party of Regions increased its lead to 31.5%, Tymoshenko hung on at 22.4% and Our Ukraine and the Socialists slipped a bit to 14.4% and 5.8% respectively. The orange parties (BYT, OU, and SP) have agreed to open talks on today. Concorde Capital: Things are still looking pretty orange. Yesterday, the Party of regions said that it planed to either block with Our Ukraine and the Socialists or the Communists and Socialists however, these plans appeared to be blown out of the water this morning when members of the Socialist camp announced that if Our Ukraine tried to form a coalition with Regions they would go into the opposition. It is not clear yet whether this threat was sincere our just a bit of hard bargaining on the part of the Socialists. The sooner the agreement is signed the more likely it is to be ‘orange.’
