No Omicron-related lockdown in Ukraine

Health Minister Victor Lyashko stated on Feb. 10 that
he does not foresee a quarantine in Ukraine due to the Omicron variant of COVID
19. Layshko noted that the number of cases had surged recently, but that
hospitalizations had not.

He stated that, “If there is a vaccine and free access
to vaccines, if there is a choice of vaccine, then it is inappropriate to talk
about a lockdown,” pravda.com.ua reported on Feb. 11.

Ukraine recorded 41,229 new cases of coronavirus on
Feb. 10. The peak case intake since the pandemic began was 43,778 cases on Feb.
4.

James Hydzik: Lyashko is in the enviable position of not having overflowing
hospitals, at least not yet. Currently, 48% of the general population is
vaccinated, and by letting the situation play out within the adaptive
quarantine that Ukraine uses, Lyashko hopes to have the reluctant convince
themselves.
