Last Friday several media outlets suggested that President Yushchenko’s Our Ukraine Party and the Party of Regions had been engaged in talks about forming a coalition with Industrial Union of Donbas (IUD) Chairman Serhey Taruta as Prime Minister. These reports were immediately denied by IUD’s press service. Concorde Capital: All denials aside, if anyone from the Party of Regions list were to become PM, Taruta, who supported Yushchenko during the ‘orange revolution,’ would be the most palatable for Our Ukraine. However, teaming up with the Party of Regions would be a major risk for Our Ukraine, as the other ‘orange’ parties would certainly label them as the “betrayers” of the revolution. Additionally, it is unclear how interested Taruta would be in the PM’s job and how interested Rinat Akhmetov would be having a potential business rival as PM.
