People’s Servant party continues to lose support, polls say

13 November 2020

The People’s Servant party is continuing to bleed
support to Ukraine’s leading pro-Western party and pro-Putin party, according
to a poll by the Rating Sociological Service published on Nov. 12. The party
founded by President Zelensky enjoys 22.7% of support from decided voters,
compared to 17.1% for the pro-Putin Opposition Platform For Life and 15.4% for
European Solidarity. Another 8.0% support the anti-IMF Fatherland party. The
poll was conducted among 2,000 respondents on Nov. 2 and 3.

The People’s Servant has lost its first-place standing
among decided voters for the first time since the 2019 parliamentary election,
according to poll results released on Nov. 11 by the Kyiv International
Institute of Sociology (KIIS). The pro-Putin Opposition Platform For Life has
22.1% support, compared to 19.3% for European Solidarity, 18.7% for The
People’s Servant, 9.3% for the Fatherland party, 6.6% for the pro-NATO Strength
and Honor party, and 5.4% for the agrarian Radical Party. The poll was
conducted among 1,502 respondents on Oct. 17-24, and Nov. 5-8.

Zenon Zawada: It became
apparent within weeks of the new parliament convening in September 2019 that
The People’s Servant didn’t have a consolidated geopolitical position towards
the West. At that point, we expected the party to lose
support gradually to the most distinguished political forces: the pro-Putin
Opposition Platform, and the pro-NATO European Solidarity.

The KIIS poll has shown a dramatic decline in ratings
for People’s Servant. These results may be less-than-ideal in having polled
only 1,500 respondents. But we believe that if these ratings are not currently
accurate, they will be in six months. The strong support for the Opposition
Platform, despite its uncharismatic leaders Yuriy Boyko and Viktor Medvedchuk,
indicates the Kremlin has been rather successful in its hybrid war against
Ukrainian statehood.
