Poroshenko signs “single customs window” legislation

Poroshenko signs “single customs window” legislation

1 October 2018

Ukrainian President Petro
Poroshenko signed into
law on Sept. 29 the introduction of a “single customs window,” his
press-service reported. The amendments to the customs code and legislation will
simplify non-tariff regulation of trade, the statement said. The legislation
will also enable introducing a “single customs window” that will optimize
control procedures when imports cross into Ukraine, quicken export-import
operations and improve Ukraine’s investment attractiveness, particularly its
position in global rankings such as the Doing Business index. The legislation
was approved by parliament in the second reading on Sept. 6.

Zenon Zawada:
Ukraine’s bureaucratic, corrupt customs and border control are a major impediment
to business and investment activity. We expect this legislation, if it delivers
on the “single customs window” that it’s promoting, will indeed boost
Ukraine’s position in global investment rankings.
