Parties that support the European Union (EU) dominated the June 11 parliamentary vote in France. The Republic on the Move party, led by newly elected President Emmanuel Macron, earned 32% of votes, while Les Republicains led by Francois Fillon earned 21%. The anti-EU National Front party finished in third place with 14%.
Zenon Zawada: To the relief of the Ukrainian government, the anti-EU tide that swept the Western world in 2016 has dissipated with the triumph of centrist parties in France. Meanwhile, the German parliamentary elections in the fall will involve no parties if significance that oppose the EU. So Ukraine will continue to enjoy steadfast support from the EU in resisting Russian aggression, as well as support for integration measures.
