Rada to reconvene on July 30

Rada to reconvene on July 30

27 July 2012

Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada will reconvene on Monday, July 30 for an extraordinary session, according to an announcement on the Rada website yesterday. Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn signed the order to call the session; items up for consideration reportedly include budget amendments and economic development bills. The Rada went on summer vacation on July 8 at a deadlock with Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn refusing to sign a controversial law that would introduce “regional languages” in Ukraine (see our news of July 4).

Brad Wells: There still does not appear to be any headway on the regional language law and it looks like Lytvyn will run the show on Monday, with an agenda that will stick to other business, pushing a resolution on the languages law and Lytvyn’s resignation as speaker until later.
