February’s retail trade increased 7.2% yoy in real
terms, accelerating from 6.3% yoy in January, Ukraine’s State Statistics
Service reported on March 20. Meanwhile, retail sales dropped 4.4% m/m in real
terms. In 2M19, retail trade increased 6.8% in real terms.
Regionally, the highest retail growth in 2M19 occurred
in the Zakarpattia (14.6% yoy), Kyiv (11.1% yoy) and Vinnytsia (10.1% yoy)
regions. It was slowest in the Volyn (0.7% yoy), Chernihiv (1.6% yoy) and Kirovohrad
(2.6% yoy) regions.
Evgeniya Akhtyrko: Retail
growth is being maintained by high consumer demand and continuing growth of
personal income (mostly wages). Cooling inflation contributed
to accelerated retail growth in real terms in February.
We expect real retail trade to increase 6-7% yoy in
2019.
