Oleksiy Reznikov tendered his resignation as Minister
of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine on Nov. 1.
The resignation has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, zn.ua
reports. According to media reports, Reznikov is being considered for the
Defense Minister’s position as part of an upcoming rotation in the Cabinet.
James Hydzik: Defense
Minister Andrii Taran is expected to be removed from his position soon, but
that news has been part of a media circus for weeks already. zn.ua claims that
the presidential team has had problems finding qualified personnel who would
want to work with them who are not already in government.
Because Reznikov was focused on aspects of the war in
the east of the country, and as a lawyer handling some of Ukraine’s most sensitive
cases before the Supreme Court, he would be better suited than many for the
defense portfolio. However, other than a stint as a paratrooper before entering
university in his native Lviv in the 1980s, he has no military connections.
Thus, if the rumors come to pass, there will be a learning curve ahead for him.
