U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sept. 10 that
he dismissed John Bolton as his U.S. national security adviser. Bolton is a
leading anti-Putin hawk in the U.S. foreign policy establishment, but news
media cited his opposition to Trump’s attempts to broker peace with the Taliban
in Afghanistan, and invite its leaders to the U.S., as the cause of the final
rift between them.
