Tymoshenko, Putin reach new gas deal

Tymoshenko, Putin reach new gas deal

20 November 2009

Following talks yesterday in Yalta, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin announced a new gas arrangement. Under the agreement, Ukraine will not be fined for gas it does not use, but agreed to take in a January contract. Putin said Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine would agree on new volumes and that the deal should avert gas transit disruptions to the European Union.
