Ukraine acting prosecutor general willing to stay on the job

Ukraine acting prosecutor general willing to stay on the job

8 April 2016

Yuriy Sevruk, the acting prosecutor general of Ukraine, said on April 7 he hasn’t received a proposal from the president to become the next prosecutor general but he would be willing to do it “if there is such a necessity.”

Zenon Zawada: There is no necessity for Sevruk to remain as prosecutor general. The future of Poroshenko’s presidency depends largely on who he selects as his next prosecutor general. To satisfy the West, he will need to find a candidate that doesn’t belong to the corrupt leadership currently in place. And the new prosecutor general will have to implement some minimal reforms and prosecutions. Sevruk can’t be a candidate since he’s part of the old guard that will continue to resist reforms and fight corruption.
