Ukraine court suspends appeal of UAH 3.1 bln debt to Russia

Ukraine court suspends appeal of UAH 3.1 bln debt to Russia

23 October 2012

Kyiv’s Economic Court of Appeals announced an indefinite suspension in the government’s appeal of a Kyiv Economic Court ruling from late September that Ukraine must pay UAH 3.1 bln (USD 0.4 bln) to Russia in connection with United Energy Systems of Ukraine’s failure to deliver goods pursuant to a contract, which was guaranteed by the Ukrainian government, Interfax reported yesterday. The delay was requested by the Cabinet of Ministers until a criminal investigation by the Security Service of Ukraine is concluded. The Russian Defense Ministry filed the lawsuit on September 10, 2012 and cited Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers and the State Treasury Service as defendants in the case.
