Ukraine extends COVID measures until October

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine extended the
current adaptive quarantine regime until Oct. 1. According to PM Denys Shmyhal,
preparations to handle the next wave of COVID are underway, pravda.com.ua
reports. Almost 100% of the hospital beds slated to have oxygen have it, and a
further 15,000 oxygen compressors have been purchased in order to better treat
Ukrainians at home.

The extension comes as recorded COVID-19 cases
continue to rise in Ukraine. On Aug. 11, 1122 cases were registered, which is
the highest number since June 17.

James Hydzik: As the number of COVID-19 cases rises, and the Delta variant becomes
dominant, further extensions are almost a given. Fortunately, the rise is slow
enough to not call for changes in the quarantine at this time.
