Ukraine power plant damage less than initially assumed, minister says

16 April 2013

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Eduard Stavytskiy stated on April 16 that damage to Centerenergo’s (CEEN UK) Uglegorsk thermal power plant from a March 29 fire is “smaller than initially assumed.” The power plant requires “overhaul, not rebuilding”, the minister said, with total losses from the fire to be estimated by the end of May, and an “overhaul” plan to be prepared in June. The fire damaged four coal-fired power units, with the official cause reported as the depressurization of a coal pulverizer.
